Explore the joys of leading kirtan (chanting) with courageous devotion. Be empowered to transform the fears of your identity and experience being an instrument of grace and devotion, leading others into this heart opening practice.
This training day is for you to discover the chanting/kirtan leader within you. You will be fully empowered in transforming your fears of chanting solo to a room of students or members of the public.
You will gain the confidence by the end of the day to lead a complete chant from start to finish in front of the entire group. You will experience for yourself the ecstasy of leading and being a unique channel through which the shakti (divine energy) can flow and uplift others. You will gain greater confidence to bring this new chant into your class as a teacher or any setting, and as a practice that you can use daily to anchor yourself in your core for daily living.
1. Lose your fear of your voice being heard
2. Learn basic vocal technique
3. Learn to play basic harmonium drones
4. Learn to trust yourself as a devotional instrument

6. Be equipped to lead a chant by the end of the day.

Nikki Slade has pioneered voice and sound work in the UK since 1990. During her earlier career as an actress and singer she performed in venues including the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal National Theatre, developing the abilities to work with audiences large and small.
Initially, Nikki was inspired by the power of sound through the sacred chants of Eastern traditions. Nikki has studied with teachers who specialise in the transforming power of the voice, and would like to express her deep gratitude to her friend and teacher Chloë Goodchild.
Nikki offers individual and group Voicework to everyone from business people to performers and the general public. Her corporate appearances include conferences and workshops for companies such as Orange, Boots, Thornton’s and Halfords, and she has worked with the Central School of Speech and Drama and the London School of Musical Theatre. Nikki has led workshops for the NHS and Wandsworth Prison and works regularly at The North London Priory Hospital on the addiction treatment programme.
Emma came to yoga gradually, trying out different styles until discovering appleyoga on a retreat to Morocco.
This retreat was the catalyst from which Emma jumped into her appleyoga Teacher Training. The training created the foundations for becoming an appleyoga teacher, teacher training mentor, pre/post natal teacher and gave her the confidence and ability to learn through and with other teachers including Nikki Slade, Cat Alip-Douglas, Catherine Annis, Matthew Sandford, Leila Sadaghee and her soul sister, Natasha Moutran.
Emma is dedicated to all levels of yoga with an emphasis on learning whether its building the foundations of a beginners practice to fine tuning the delivery of a new teachers first yoga class or modifying a yoga practice when pregnant. She has a firm belief that yoga should be safe for the body and respects all levels of student.
Whilst a qualified teacher she is very much a student of this lifelong practise and always will be. Her excitement for what she knows and has yet to learn keeps her classes’ fun, awakening and balanced.
